The Commodities and Global Markets group is investing in a large-scale multi year global cloud transformation program across its divisions using modern cloud-native technologies to drive scale, agility and next generation resilience.

We are looking for a seasoned cloud technologist with a track record of delivering innovative and scalable technical cloud solutions in complex environments, particularly in the financial markets industry. Ideally, you will be a strategic thinker with deep technical focus, committed to realising exceptional value for our business.

As the Principal Cloud Architect in the Commodities & Global Markets Cloud Enablement team, you will be involved in driving fundamental cloud technical solutions that will propel Commodities & Global Markets and Macquaire Capital into public cloud, particularly in AWS.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • exceptionally strong and demonstrated experience architecting, designing and implementing innovative, sophisticated, highly available, highly automated and secure Cloud technologies and architectures, specifically in the AWS Ecosystem.
  • practical hands-on experience implementing cloud technologies and methods, including automation.
  • strong experience designing and implementing cloud solutions in highly regulated environments across the globe.
  • strong experience in delivery and managing scope, with a particular focus on the Agile delivery framework (Sprint planning, estimation, running showcases, controlling scope changes and aligning the appropriate resources)
  • strong experience across the DevOps, CI/CD landscape
  • the ability to grasp complex business problems and design holistic and robust cloud solutions with a hands-on approach
  • a technical / engineering background with deep experience across the AWS Ecosystem and its services (and how these services are best used and benefits realised)
  • the ability to drive consensus across various divisions (Technology, Security, Cloud, Application Teams) and demonstrated ability to influence change.
  • a good understanding of “Everything as Code” including development skills including familiarity with languages such as C++, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Golang, CloudFormation and Ruby.
  • solution designing across Kubernetes and EKS/GKE experience (preferably hands-on)
  • strong experience with cloud migrations and transforming COTS and monolithic applications to cloud-native technologies
  • expert experience across a range of Infrastructure as Code tooling, e.g. HashiCorp Terraform, CDK
  • strong experience working on environments running large scale, highly available, highly scalable applications
  • proven DevSecOps experience, with awareness of what good looks like from a security perspective, and how security controls can be embedded into platforms.
  • experience providing people leadership, mentoring and coaching to younger, less experienced engineers.

In addition, the following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • a working knowledge of financial (capital) markets products, including derivatives, risk and how they are implemented in technology systems
  • some familiarity with Ruby, Bamboo CI/CD, and/or Sybase databases
